Porcelain worktops in London

Porcelain worktops combine a manufactured surface with a wide range of stone-inspired and contemporary designs. Large-format slabs can work well for kitchen runs, islands and splashbacks. Choosing the pattern is only part of the decision: edges, supports and cut-outs matter too.

Look beyond the front of the sample

A porcelain design may carry its pattern mainly on the face of the slab. The appearance of an exposed edge can therefore differ from the top surface. Ask how the chosen edge profile will look and whether a mitred detail is appropriate for the design. Check the direction and scale of the printed or formed pattern across the complete slab, especially for an island and matching splashback. Confirm thickness and available finishes for the selected product, rather than assuming all porcelain worktops share the same specification.

Plan delicate details carefully

Porcelain is hard, but edges and narrow areas around cut-outs still need thoughtful design and handling. Sink openings, hob cut-outs, overhangs and waterfall ends should be reviewed before fabrication. Appropriate support matters, particularly for a long island or a thin-looking profile. Decide whether splashbacks will meet the worktop in a continuous visual pattern or simply use the same colour. A full slab photograph helps with that discussion, but the cutting plan and actual slab dimensions determine what can be achieved in the room.

Follow the chosen surface’s care instructions

Many porcelain surfaces have low water absorption and are straightforward to clean, but the right cleaning products and methods depend on the finish. Wipe spills with a soft cloth and avoid abrasive treatments unless the surface guidance allows them. Use a chopping board and a trivet as sensible everyday protection. Do not assume that a material’s heat or scratch resistance prevents every kind of damage. If you are planning an outdoor kitchen, confirm that the specific surface, adhesives, supports and installation details are suitable for that setting.
